A volunteer, part-time first aid station for all Swan's Island, Maine residents and visitors
The Swan's Island First Aid (SIFA) station will be launched in the summer of 2026 and will provide free, part time first aid services by volunteer health professionals. SIFA is an offshoot of a community health needs assessment to improve the island's access to health care and reduce demand for off-island emergency transport. We are currently reviewing applications for the 2026 launch and eager to work with visiting healthcare providers and community members to improve the health of our remote maritime community!
Swan's Island is an unbridged island located in Downeast Maine, not far from Acadia National Park. The island is serviced multiple times daily by a year-round ferry from Bass Harbor, ME.
This close-knit island community has a rich history and culture. There are about 425 year-round residents, and that number can triple in the summer months when seasonal residents and visitors arrive.
